Puget Sound Goat Rescue is accepting applications for a part time intern to help us during our busiest time of year, rescued baby season! We are looking for someone 25 hours per week in exchange for a room at the main rescue location. Flexibility is essential as the intern will help at both of our farms (just 4 miles from each other) and the hours will be both morning and/or afternoon/evening depending on the farms' schedule.
Intern responsibilities will include general barn chores such as cleaning and feeding, assistance with general herd management such as hoof trimming and treatments and miscellaneous chores such as prepping and washing bottles, helping with storage organization, record keeping, occasional goat transport and more! There will be lots of hands on time caring for the goats including the dozens of bottle babies we will be raising! At times, the intern will work alongside rescue volunteers as well.
If you choose to live onsite, the accommodations available will have a separate living quarters and entrance that include a small furnished bedroom, bathroom, small living room and a shared large kitchen. It is a very quiet household. There are two very sweet dogs who live on the farm so a dog (in addition to goat, sheep, turkey, llama) lover is a must! There is very limited storage available and room for just one vehicle to park at the farm.
We are looking for someone mature and responsible who can make a 25 hour per week commitment for at least 6 months. No experience is necessary but you must be comfortable and willing to get dirty and work outside, rain or shine. You must also be able to lift 50 lbs and work in a farm environment with dust, hay and other common allergens. We are flexible on a start date but would like to have someone start no later than January 2nd so you are well versed with the rescue before the babies start arriving in early February.
This is a great opportunity to work with and learn from a very passionate group of goat lovers dedicated to rescue.
If you are interested in our internship and can make the above commitment, please complete the application below.
- Living on-site is not a requirement.
- We are unable to accommodate partners or pets of interns on the farm. (a possible exception may be made for an indoor cat or small dog, deposit required)
- We are no-smoking, drug-free farm.
